I hope you’re doing swell. I hope you’re taking care of yourself. I hope you’re tending to your needs.
Are you ready to dive into the third of the three timing techniques I’m teaching you in this beginner-friendly 3-part series!? Let’s do it!
Before we dive in, I want to remind you about the first two techniques I’ve shared with you – the first technique was transits, which you can review in this blog post here, and the second technique was secondary progressions (especially the progressed moon), which you can review in this blog post here.
Ok, now that you’ve reviewed those, let’s move onto the final technique I’ll be showing you in this 3-part series…
The Secondary Progressed Lunar Cycle!
Last week, we discussed the eerily accurate timing technique of secondary progressions, where every planet in your birth chart symbolically moves around the chart, ushering in new seasons of life and helping you to evolve into a more wise and experienced version of yourself. We mainly focused on the progressed moon, which is absolutely the most important progressed planet to look at in the chart.
Today, we zoom out from these more granular techniques and discuss the secondary progressed lunar cycle. Using this technique, we can gauge what part of your “life cycle” you’re in. Are you starting something new? Are you building up to something? Are you currently at a peak? Are you winding down? Are you closing something out before moving on? We can answer all of these questions when we look at the secondary progressed lunar cycle.
The New Moon at the bottom of the photo is completely dark, but then the Moon begins to wax (gain light). After that, we have the Full Moon, where there is full illumination, and then the Moon wanes (loses light) until we hit another New Moon.
What are the phases of the lunar cycle?
There are 8 phases total, all with distinct meanings, but for the sake of this blog post, I’ll just share the energetic symbolism of the basic 4 phases – New Moon, Waxing Moon (growing in light), Full Moon, and Waning Moon (losing light).
New Moon:
The New Moon happens when the Sun and the Moon conjoin in the sky. This is true of both the transiting Sun and Moon and the secondary progressed Sun and Moon. New Moons are times for new starts, new beginnings, and planting a seed/intention that will blossom and grow as the moon waxes (grows in light). The same is true of our secondary progressed New Moon – it tends to be a pivot or entirely new venture/phase of life. This is the time for starting something new!
Waxing Moon:
The Waxing Moon occurs from the New Moon up until the Full Moon, where the Moon is gaining light (and therefore energy). During the secondary progressed Waxing Moon, we are building up to peak busyness, peak visibility, and peak culmination. This is where we’re learning through trial and error, and we are gaining in light, gaining in energy, and gaining in speed as we go. The seed you planted at the New Moon may have been a hazy, vague, uncertain idea at the time, but as the Moon gains light, you gain clarity and commitment as well.
Full Moon:
The Full Moon occurs at peak illumination, when the Sun and the Moon are opposite in the sky. At this point in the secondary progressed lunar cycle, you’ve hit some sort of peak. This tends to be a very busy time for people, a time when there is a lot going on and perhaps the person even has peak visibility in some way.
Waxing Moon:
Then, the Moon begins to wax and lose light again. The Waxing Moon symbolizes winding down, wrapping things up, sharing wisdom from your peak experiences with others, surrendering, reflecting, and shedding what no longer feels aligned. This happens until we reach that New Moon again.
And there you have the most basic framework of the secondary progressed lunar cycle – a timing technique that helps you zoom out and get a bird’s eye view of your life. As an important side note – since the progressed lunar cycle takes ~29.5 years to complete, most of us go through multiple cycles in a single lifetime. It’s not like we all have one peak and then we’re done. Nope, we get multiple shots at starting something new, pivoting, and experiencing success. In other words, we all get to peak multiple times in life!
Curious what phase of your secondary progressed lunar cycle you’re currently in? Want to know and better understand it so that you can plan accordingly?
